Preparing For Class
Get yourself a couple of blocks of Basswood or White Pine; measuring between 1-1/4 to 2 inches square.
The blocks I use are about 3 inches long but you should leave yours as a six inch piece. This way you will have some wood to hold on to while carving the face.
The tools I used for these carvings are shown below.
If you do not have the tools listed, use the closest tool like them that you have.
We will be doing 4 different sets of eyes, a couple noses and some mouths also.
PLEASE BE SURE YOUR TOOLS ARE SHARP
AND READY TO CARVE WHEN YOU ARRIVE.
I will not have time to sharpen them during Class.
Completed Project Example
We will begin with
Unit 1
PATTERN
This pattern is twice the size of the carvings in the step by step section, but make your carving the size of your choice. What you feel will fit the tools that you have. You may wish to go smaller or larger.
REMEMBER a pattern is just a guide for the carving and a place to start from,be creative and add a little of you in all of your carvings. All the lines on this may and should vary a little as you carve more of them, trying diffrent combination of tools and cuts.
