Us a pin to position the head pattern (on Center Line)

turn L or R 3 degrees and then draw around the pattern.

Then carving it in..keep it square in steps 1 through 5.

I have used the 3/4' #3 gouge as my primary tool; with that, I will used to do 98 percent of the shaping of the caricature.

Try to carve in a blocked in fashion when you first set in the head, the arm's the ear's etc.

It is much easier to measure from one point to another and to achieve the depth that you need to have a rounded carving.

Always maintain your center lines and let that be the last thing that is removed.
