START YOUR ENGIN'S,  first draw in a few basic shapes......
YOU WILL NOTICE THAT I'AM   USING ONLY THREE TOOLS.A PENCIL; THE WARREN  "V" TOOL (THAT HAS BEEN RESHAPED) AND A 3/4 INCH DENNY #3 GOUGE.THIS WILL BE MY BASIC TOOLS FOR SHAPING THE CARVING.
I always  start by carving everything in as a square boxed in shape. It makes it much easier to take measurement and to transfer the measurement from the left to right arm and from joint to joint. As you may have noted(above) that I have a larger area set aside for the RIGHT hand as this measurement will change it's position when you start rounding the carving and the distance between the elbow and the wrist has elongated in this process. ALWAYS leave more wood  for the hands (or any feature, such as the nose, etc. As you can always make things smaller BUT never larger. Once it is removed...it's gone, and keep redrawing lines.Better safe than sorry.
I now have both arms blocked in and have  drawn in the  for the ears with sideburns the eye and nose line.I also carry these line across the top of the head in case I cut them all off by mistake.
Let's flip to see who pays for the coffee
We will take a short break and then turn the page and get back to the CHIP'S
