Brought the teacher an apple with half a worm in it.

Then using an old card, trace around it (as in picture 1).
Cut it out (as in picture 2).
Flip it over and place it on the other foot area and trace around it (as in picture #3)
Then carve the other shoe.This will make both feet(or shoes) very close in shape and size.

We will be using the 3/4 inch #3 Denny gouge to round out and shape the the carving these next 5 pictures
Replace lines if you should cut them off.
Leave the hands large, they should look like large mittens.
With the right hand you will notice that I have lots of wood as the hand will extend to the belly.Once you have the shape complete you can then check your measurements and reduce the hand sizes to match. Always carve the one that has the lest amount of wood FIRST then you can take you measurements from the completed one.
I have used the V tool to set in the ears and hair lines on the head and the sweat shirt. If you are a power carver you may wish to use your Foredom to do these steps. Study the pictures and carve away.
Study these faces and how the facial features are blocked out.
In the next lesson we will set-in the face.
