I will give a short explanation of the work in progress
As you can see I run a pretty neat bench.
Will Hayden's Workbench
I will try to update this often to show what I am whittlin' on at the moment
I normally just make a quick drawing on the block of wood and cut out the side view only. This leaves me plenty of wood to change the carving as I proceed with the carving. This block was IS 2X2X6 1/4 inches.Use the size of wood that you feel comfortable with to carve.

As you see by my carving that I start at the top and work down.

This works for me,carving a section at a time. After setting the face in I get more of a feeling as to what type of person I want to
carve.

I know it is normal to rough out the whole carving to start off and to keep it balanced, and in a class set up that is the way I would do the instructing.

Carving for myself I like to get the face first
to set the mood of the carving.
Come back later on...see you.......

Here I am laying out and carving the legs. I use my pencil to draw in the direction of the bone and show the joints( I do this also when I am working up a pattern on paper).I will be back with the painting very soon. I will give you time to catch up with me...ENJOY
"MR MAYOR"
IS COMPLETED.
Paint just as you would carve, use the biggest brush as long as you can.
After the paint is good and dry I use Krylon Matte
finish.
I hope you have enjoyed this little project. I will be starting another one very soon...so come back and let me hear from you if you have a
question or any suggestions.        Will Hayden
